[As Wayne noticed before, it's a stone coffin. The cover looks rather heavy, made of gray stone. It doesn't have any decorations other than the carving, and the tools left on it have dust on them by now.
Worth noting, though, is that there's a dirty plaque on the very bottom:
'James Williams 1872 - 1965
His resting place is his reward for making this town happen'
If anyone here remembers the townspeople's names, they may realize that's the same last name than the tavern's owner and bartender, Davis. Neato!]
